The City of Laredo Health Department is engaged in a program initiated by The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Human Development and Disability. This program aims to enhance the support provided to individuals with disabilities during health emergencies and improve their overall preparedness, including pandemic planning, mitigation, and recovery efforts.

The primary objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity of the City of Laredo Health Department in effectively addressing the needs of people with disabilities during outbreaks, pandemics, and other national emergencies. To achieve this, the project focuses on the following key activities:

  1. Embedding disability specialists as subject matter experts: Disability specialists will be integrated into the CLHD’s local public health emergency preparedness planning and response programs.
  2. Strengthening partnerships with community-based organizations: The project seeks to enhance collaboration and partnerships between the CLHD and community-based organizations that provide services to people with disabilities.
  3. Updating local emergency response plans: Local emergency response plans will be revised and updated to ensure they effectively cater to the needs of individuals with disabilities during outbreaks, pandemics, and other national emergencies.

By implementing these activities, the City of Laredo Health Department aims to enhance their preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring the inclusivity and accessibility of emergency services for individuals with disabilities in the community.
