Keep Laredo Beautiful to Celebrate Arbor Day in Laredo
LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo and Keep Laredo Beautiful celebrated the proclamation of Arbor Day in Laredo, Texas, on November 8th, 2024. Mayor Pro Tempore and Council Member for District 5, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr., along with Council Member for District 1, Gilbert Gonzalez and Monika Cavazos, president of the Keep Laredo Beautiful Board, read the Mayoral Proclamation to commemorate this significant occasion.
To celebrate the first Laredo Arbor Day, members of Keep Laredo Beautiful and members of the community, including sponsors and volunteers will be planting approximately 130 trees at Independence Hills Park, on November 9th, 2024.
At a National level, Arbor Day is celebrated the last Friday of April. Alternatively, Texas celebrates Arbor Day traditionally on the first Friday in November. Through this event, the City wants to educate the community about the health benefits trees provide and the role they play in our daily lives. This year, Keep Laredo Beautiful has chosen to observe Arbor Day in the fall to ensure that newly planted trees thrive and grow strong for years to come. By planting trees, we express our gratitude to Mother Nature, working together to secure clean air for future generations.
This proclamation highlights the City of Laredo’s commitment to enhancing green spaces and recognizing the value trees bring to the community. Laredoans are encouraged to continue to celebrate the importance of trees in the community, from their impact on our environment to their beauty in all neighborhoods.
