The City of Laredo to Host 2nd Annual Laredo Marathon This Weekend
LAREDO, TX – The City of Laredo and the Parks and Recreation Department are thrilled to remind the community that the 2nd Annual Laredo Marathon is just around the corner, taking place on November 17, 2024. Following last year’s highly successful inaugural event, which welcomed 150 runners, organizers are eager to invite even more participants to register and join the excitement. There is still time to sign up for what promises to be another unforgettable race day.
The Laredo Marathon is certified by the United States Track & Field (USATF) and serves as a Boston Marathon Qualifier. The scenic and challenging 26.2-mile course begins at Uni-Trade Stadium and finishes at the parking lot of the Outlet Shoppes at Laredo, showcasing the city’s unique character and vibrant community.
Last year’s race celebrated top performances, with Michael Morris from Austin, Texas, securing the overall male title and Tenley Ortiz from Giddings, Texas, winning the overall female category; each received a $2,500 prize. Seven participants also qualified for the prestigious 2025 Boston Marathon, highlighting the event’s competitive spirit.
This year, two runners from Kenya have registered and will be participating in this prestigious event. They are Erick M. Mose from Nyamira, Kenya, and John E. Esinyon, from Turkana, Kenya. The Laredo Marathon’s organizers are delighted to welcome them to our city in this sporting event.
Runners of all experience levels are welcome to join, whether by participating in the full marathon, the 2-person relay, or the half marathon. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the overall categories. The Parks and Recreation Department encourages first responders, teachers, and City employees to participate with special discounted rates for all three events. For all those that have registered, the packet pickup event will be hosted at L&F Distributors (410 Crossroads Loop), on Saturday, November 16, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 P.M.
Registration remains open for those interested in joining Laredo’s growing marathon tradition. It’s easy to sign up by scanning the QR code provided or by visiting laredoparksandrec.com. The community may also contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 956-729-4608, for additional information.
