1. ANNEXED & PLATTED
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Planning & Zoning
PROCESS: Customers must check if their property has been annexed and platted to the City of Laredo. They may set up an appointment with a planner at the Planning & Zoning Department for information. Having a current domestic meter does not mean the property has been annexed and platted.
2. PERMANENT DOMESTIC SERVICE
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: City Hall Annex
PROCESS: Customer may visit or call a Customer Service Representative located in the City Hall Annex [956-727-6400] to check if they have an active domestic account for the property in question
3. UTILITIES PLANS
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Building Department
PROCESS: If a new tap is NOT needed for an irrigation meter, please proceed to step 4. However, if a new tap is proposed for the irrigation service please submit civil plans showing proposed and existing services to the Building Department. These plans will then be reviewed by the Utilities Department for compliance
4. METER SIZING WORKSHEET OR IRRIGATION DEMAND LETTER
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Building Department
PROCESS: A Meter Sizing Worksheet or Irrigation Demand Letter will be required if the property owner is requesting a meter larger than two inches. Below you may find the options for submitting the demand needed by the irrigation system.
OPTION 1: METER SIZING WORKSHEET - You may find the irrigation section on page 3 of the Meter Sizing Worksheet a copy can be downloaded here
OPTION 2: IRRIGATION DEMAND LETTER - A letter may be submitted showing the demand for each of the irrigation stations. This letter must include the calculations behind the demand being reported with a copy of the specifications for the irrigation head. The meter size will be based on the demand of the largest zone.
5. Review Compliance Letter
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Utilities Engineering Division
PROCESS: Once submittals and/or water & sewer plans are submitted for review with a Building Permit Application, they will immediately be set in line to be reviewed.
6. PLUMBING PERMIT
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Building Department
PROCESS: The Building Department will provide a Plumbing Permit to the customer once all submittals have been found to be within compliance.
7. COST STATEMENT
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Utilities Engineering Division
PROCESS: If all submittals are found to be within compliance, the Utilities Engineering Division will provide the customer with a cost statement covering construction services the City of Laredo is eligible to provide.
8. BACKFLOW PREVENTER
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Water Pollution Division
a: To minimize the chance of back flow infiltrating into the public water system, a backflow preventer must be registered and installed. Once the backflow preventer is installed, please register it with our Water Pollution Division, once this is done the customer will need to set up an appointment with a Utilities Inspector for a field verification
9. UTILITIES INSPECTIONS & PENDING FEES
DEPARTMENT INVOLVED: Utilities Department
PROCESS: Customers whose projects require Utilities inspections will need to set up an appointment with our inspectors by calling 956-721-2000 and get an approved final inspection report. Due to our shorthanded staff, a 72 hours notice is required.
10. PERMANENT IRRIGATION METER
DEPARTMENT: City Hall Annex
PROCESS: Once all the previously described requirements have been cleared, the Utilities Engineering Division will release a permanent irrigation meter.
Please be aware that we do not review any submittals immediately, proper timing should be considered by the owner and his/her contractors. Timing for submittal reviews depends on current load of plans waiting to be reviewed, preference is given to plans being reviewed for the first time.
